About Sandeep Arora:

Sandeep Arora, Ph.D., has about twenty years of experience which includes teaching, research, and consultancy. His research interests include Morphology of Urban Informal Settlements, Housing for Informal Sector, Sustainable Urban Planning and Urban Design, Passive Solar Architecture, and Architecture Pedagogy. Dr. Arora joined SPA Bhopal in 2011 after completing post-graduate studies from Ball State University, USA, followed by three years practice in USA during the years 2007-2010. He earned the doctorate degree in 2020 at SPA Bhopal, where he continues to work as faculty in the Department of Architecture. He is a recipient of Architectural Research Centers Consortium Professor Jonathan King Medal for Excellence in Architectural + Environmental Design 2007-2008. He is a Registered Architect with Council of Architecture, India and a former member of Indian Institute of Architects, India. His teaching experience includes teaching in disciplines of Urban Design (M. Arch), Landscape Architecture (M. Arch), and Architecture (B. Arch).

Sandeep has published and reviewed several papers, book reviews and Journal Articles in Indian and International forums. He is the editor of SPANDREL, ISSUE 10 “Learning from Informal Settlements” (SPA Press, 2015) and Associate-editor of the book “Uniting Differences: Universal Design for Exploring World Heritage Sites in India” and also contributed a chapter in Environmental Remediation and Rejuvenation: Principles, processes and practices.

He has presented at international conferences in United States of America, Canada, Italy, and India, and at national conferences and meetings at Jamia Millia Islamia (New Delhi), ICON BITS (BITS Pilani), and URGENT IFCU (NIRMA University). His Keynote/invited Lectures include events at NID Ahmedabad, IIT BHU, SPA Delhi, NITTTR Bhopal, OIST Bhopal, and Indian Urban Conference ,Mysore, to name a few.

At SPA Bhopal, he also serves as a member of Department Research Committee for doctoral candidates in Department of Architecture, member of Institute Innovations Council, Vice president of SPA Bhopal Alumni Association, and member of Committee of Department of Architecture Faculty to Promote Research. Previously he also served as Program Coordinator of the B. Arch Program.
